Giller Shortlist Announced
In case you haven't already heard. Am thrilled for Alissa York -- that's pretty darn exciting. And can't say I'm too surprised about the others, but I am sad that October isn't on the shortlist. Right now my book sense puts money on Elizabeth Hay to win. However, as I am always wrong about these things, don't be surprised if I'm totally incorrect.

I was really surprised that the Hill book didn't make it. I started reading it and just love the writing! I've been checking all morning for the shortlist thinking that they would post it by 8am in order that I have something to mull over during my toast break at work! hehe

The Hay? Really? I am reading that book right now and I am not super excited by it. I have to finish it to say for sure, of course, but overall I find it a bit ordinary! I was a bit surprised that October wasn't on there myself. The same authors tend to make the list over and over again, but I didn't love October.
I think you and Kerry might come to book blows over that one -- the Hay is her favourite book she's read this year...
It's next on my nightstand once it arrives.
Book blows would be bad. I will likely finish it tonight, so maybe it will improve and change my mind!
That being said, I really liked the Ondaatje and I know several people that thought it was really bad. To each their own, I suppose. :)
Considering the judges, I'd say Elizabeth Hay or Alissa York. But I'm generally wrong on these things.
Oh Darn. I wanted the Book of Negroes to be selected - although I havent read it yet.
